Auroa School Event: Step Master Dance Competition

 

Every year at Auroa Primary School we have special events for the students, which as an Apple Distinguished School we like to consider 'special events'.   In the past we have had virtual pinball competitions and for the past two years we have held a livestream of this event.

The dance machine that was created by the students, has an amazing video produced by our wonderful AF teacher here.    The students in addition to creating the machine have also been responsible for creating music videos (originals) which are then used for the competition.   You can click on an example of one of the videos here.

We used a combination of our technology for both the creation of the machine - such as the laser cutter for the mechanical elements and the display.   Since the machines creation we have added additional features such as the display on the top which has been created as a decal using our sticker machine.

We are now allowing our students to rehearse for the competition by spending their lunch and break times to compete in competitions (against each other) which we will also use to double as qualifying.   The best students will advance to our livestream finals which we will broadcast on youtube for our community.

The two posters that are shown above in the top photograph are 2m by 4m having been printed on the massive school printer.

Technology Projects from Auroa School - April 2025

 

Later in the year we have a major Auroa School Event - our Market Day for 2025.   Our students, including our Year 3/4 students from this classroom are running a business focussed on innovation, creativity and making something for our event.

We have detailed that last two previous events on this blog as the technology at our school is used extensively for the creation of the products.   You can see examples throughout the blog and you can use the 'search' option on the right to see some of the many market day projects that our students have created.

We also are holding one of our major streamed school events this term - our annual Dance Machine competition.   We have a series of events that we livestream from our school - this event is when we use the student created Dance Machine (which also includes music videos made by the students for the machine).  You can view details of the competition here on the blog as the competition approaches.

Special Projects: Page Update

On this blog, this year, you may have notices a slight change with some of the content.   Previously the blog was dedicated solely to the work of the student, and some staff, related to the use of 3D Printers at our school.  As time has evolved (as the first posts on this blog date back ten years) the school has continued to update some of its technology which the students are using in addition to the 3D Printers.  

We have thus included tabs that involve some of the other technology that our students are using including our industrial laser cutter, the sticker machine and exemplars from special event days, like our market day.

Recently we have included links to some of our major project work.   This is chiefly been created by students working with our amazing AV man at school Jason Bloor.  This is a link to his youtube page.

Our special event project for this term is to have our Step Master Dance Machine Competition.   This machine was built as a special project with our students, and the videos created were also worked on by out students.   The videos work in conjunction with the machine, so the students are dancing, and the videos of the step master are featuring our school and students in a range of original material.

Last year, we held a livestream dance competition where students battled against each other and we streamed the event live at our school.  This was similar to the Virtual Pinball Competitions which we have run for the past six years.    We have a competition day when we commentate as the students compete against each other.   The video below is the link to last years competition.

We will be holding this years competition with increased divisions (such as a junior group as we have students as young as six on the machine!) a Boys specific competition and also a staff version.

Step Master 2023 - Livestream Details

Each year our students have a Virtual Pinball Competition which is built around virtual pinball tables which have been manufactured by our students.   This year we are using another piece of our schools technology, which was created and worked on by our students - our Step Master Dance Machine.

This has been previously built by students to mimic a full sized dance/step machine.   The videos that play with this machine were created by students, who created the music video and the music to go with each of the songs - examples of which you can see by clicking on the link here.

The dance pad in front of the machine has two spaces for two players to compete against each other and four key pressure pads for the students to strike in time to the music - gaining themselves points in the process.  Tomorrow we have a LIVE YOUTUBE BROADCAST of the competition with our students competing against each other on the Dance Machine.
