Roland Versa Sign Maker - Senior Tech

We have mentioned in several posts that the senior students at Auroa Primary School are very lucky to be able to take part in DPE which is our senior technology program.    This is sometimes called tech and our students have a range of programs and tasks they can complete from cooking, art, sewing to laser cutting and digital technology.

In digital technology the students have completed a project using the Roland Versa Sign Maker.   This has been referred to on this blog as our 'sticker machine' which has been used for a range of projects which you can view a small sample of by clicking on the link here.

Mr Bloor our amazing AV teacher who is responsible for so many great projects at our school has been working with a group of students on these 'scaled down' versions of arcade machines.   The decals for the machines have been created by our Y7/8 students and the machines themselves printed on the Bambu H2D.

There are a variety of machines shown here - including a minature version of our Step Master Machine and also various versions of some of our other arcade machines.

The details of this will be announced very shortly but they will be put online and shared here and we will be broadcasting the competiton later in the term!

We are always very excited to offer amazing opportunities for the students at Auroa Primary School.   One of the greatest resources at our school is our amazing DDR 'Step Master' Machine.   This machine was built by students at our school in 2020 - Mr Bloor our amazing technology teacher produced this incredible video about the process here.   We continue to have regular competitions using this machine and the media that the students have created - such as our 'K Pop' inspired Dance Competition at the end of last term, you can view the video of this event here.

We also detailed how we used other technology at our school for this event.

School Event: Dance Machine Student Challenge

 

Next Monday here at Auroa Primary School we have our next major technology event - another Dance Machine Challenge this one as shown on the poster left.   We will be live streaming this event (via Youtube) and broadcasting it to the school and community.

This involves using our Step Master Dance Machine which was a significant school project when it was built - you can view the construction, behind the scenes video here.

In addition to the machine we add media to the machine each year in the form of music videos which are created by the students which are then used in the competitions, such as examples like 'The Golf Guys - The Golf Masters'

Each year we have a major event for our students - again this year we held our School Stepmaster Dance Competition.   Today in school we held the competition and had five competitions - Medium Girls and Senior Girls, Junior Girls, Boys and Staff.   The above link for Sonic Vision Studios has the video for todays amazing competition.

At Auroa Primary School each year we have several special events for our students, one of which is our Step Master Dance Competition.  Above is the video for the 2024 competition.   Our students are currently involved in qualifying where in the last week of this term, just over nine days away.    We will be live streaming this competition via Youtube and will put details on this site.

The Step Master Machine is a major piece of hardware for our school that is a focus for our students.   The step master machine was built by students who continue to produce media for the machine in the form of the music videos that students compete with.   You can view the Youttube channel where this work is based by clicking on the link here.

This coming Monday in New Zealand we will be holding the first of our major school events - in this case it will be the 2024 Step-Master Competition.

As we have detailed previously this machine was built by staff and students - with the videos created as additional media.

Via this Youttube page we will be live streaming the entire event.   We will have a range of competitions throughout the day with commentary as the students and staff battle against each other.

School Events: Step Master Competition

 

As we've mentioned, and detailed previously on this blog, we tend to try and combine some of the very special and popular technology at our school with school events.

This term, in a few weeks we are holding our Step Master Battle Competition.   This involves the student project the making of the Step Master Machine and was live streamed on youtube last year.

To encourage the students for the competition for this year we have been currently holding out qualifying.  Any student at our school is free to enter, they enter and have a recorded score by a school (student) official.  This allows the students to have a system by which they can be ranked and then ordered for the live finals.   There is a bit of pressure associated with this, as students who don't manage to score as highly as they would like can struggle to make the tournament grade however, generally this also allows the top students to qualify through.

The poster for the competition was printed on our HP Latex 335 Printer and the poster and score sheet measures 1.4m by 2m.     

We will be streaming the finals of this competition again this year, with our multi camera options and will post details about this event on this blog prior to it happening.

Step Master: The Making Of Video

Later this term we are having our school Step Master Competition.  This video was created by Jason Bloor, from Sonic Vision Studios.  It includes a detailed explanation of the building process and information that our students and staff went through to complete the build.

Each year our students have a Virtual Pinball Competition which is built around virtual pinball tables which have been manufactured by our students.   This year we are using another piece of our schools technology, which was created and worked on by our students - our Step Master Dance Machine.

This has been previously built by students to mimic a full sized dance/step machine.   The videos that play with this machine were created by students, who created the music video and the music to go with each of the songs - examples of which you can see by clicking on the link here.

The dance pad in front of the machine has two spaces for two players to compete against each other and four key pressure pads for the students to strike in time to the music - gaining themselves points in the process.  Tomorrow we have a LIVE YOUTUBE BROADCAST of the competition with our students competing against each other on the Dance Machine.
