Step Master Machine - 2026 Updates

 

Regular visitors to this site will be aware that one of the amazing pieces of technology that are available to our students is the incredible Step Master Machine!

Mr Bloor has spent time during the holidays rebuilding, repairing and reconstructing the dance pads that are an important part of the machine - you can see the brand now steps pads here.

The original machine was built using the laser cutter here at school, the 3D Printers, the amazing sticker machine for the decals and an incredible amount of hard work.

This is a full sized machine based on the 1990s Arcade Machine 'Dance Dance Revoultion.   Mr Bloor our amazing digital technician built this machine with a group of our students (you can view the amazing story of its construction here).

Since the machine was built students have been updating the media each year with students creating their own media and music videos that work on the machine you can see examples of this here.

Each year we have a competition for our students based on the machine.   We have been live streaming the event via Youtube for the community for the past few years - examples of which you can see including last years finals by clicking on the links here.   

Last year we also held a very special themed event based on the K-Pop Demon Hunters with the Auroa School K-Pop Demon Hunters Challenge - you can view the footage of this mega event by clicking on this link here.

We have not made an official announcement about the potential 2026 competition for our students but keep your eyes peeled as an announcement about a competition for 2026 might be coming very shortly for our students! 

2025 - Year in Review: Stepmaster + Livestream

 

There have been a number of school projects this year that have involved technology and the students of Auroa Primary School.

This post is focussed on the school Step Master machine and the technology that is associated with it.  The first starting point is the video is the creation of the Stepmaster video.   This video is a explanation of the process behind the making of the machine itself.

You can click on this videos here in the thumbnail.   A number of our students were involved in the making of this machine and we used technology such as our laser cutter, sticker machine and 3D printers to complete the build. This is the machines Promo Video:

This machine is an ongoing piece of technology at our school.  While the machine itself was built over five years ago the media for the machine continues to be updated with additional media (songs) which are recorded by the students and the accompanying video.   This is the dedicated video explaining its construction:

Finally we also use the machine, and the media that the students have made as part of the progress and the event when we have a livestream.   This year at Auroa Primary School we had two - a regular competition featuring the different student categories which we broadcast live to our community

Once this had been completed we held a second event during the year that was themed around a very popular series of media, music and movie - K Pop Demon Hunters with another livestream.  You can view the video for this livestream below:

DDR - Dance Dance Revoultion Machine

 

We are always very excited to offer amazing opportunities for the students at Auroa Primary School.   One of the greatest resources at our school is our amazing DDR 'Step Master' Machine.   This machine was built by students at our school in 2020 - Mr Bloor our amazing technology teacher produced this incredible video about the process here.   We continue to have regular competitions using this machine and the media that the students have created - such as our 'K Pop' inspired Dance Competition at the end of last term, you can view the video of this event here.

Major School Event: Stepmaster Competition 2025

 

Tomorrow at Auroa Primary School we are having one of the biggest events of our school year - our annual Stepmaster Competition.   This involves the use of our School Stepmaster Machine with the students competing against each other to determine our 2025 School Champion.

At Auroa Primary School each year we have several special events for our students, one of which is our Step Master Dance Competition.  Above is the video for the 2024 competition.   Our students are currently involved in qualifying where in the last week of this term, just over nine days away.    We will be live streaming this competition via Youtube and will put details on this site.

The Step Master Machine is a major piece of hardware for our school that is a focus for our students.   The step master machine was built by students who continue to produce media for the machine in the form of the music videos that students compete with.   You can view the Youttube channel where this work is based by clicking on the link here.

School Events: Step Master Competition

 

As we've mentioned, and detailed previously on this blog, we tend to try and combine some of the very special and popular technology at our school with school events.

This term, in a few weeks we are holding our Step Master Battle Competition.   This involves the student project the making of the Step Master Machine and was live streamed on youtube last year.

To encourage the students for the competition for this year we have been currently holding out qualifying.  Any student at our school is free to enter, they enter and have a recorded score by a school (student) official.  This allows the students to have a system by which they can be ranked and then ordered for the live finals.   There is a bit of pressure associated with this, as students who don't manage to score as highly as they would like can struggle to make the tournament grade however, generally this also allows the top students to qualify through.

The poster for the competition was printed on our HP Latex 335 Printer and the poster and score sheet measures 1.4m by 2m.     

We will be streaming the finals of this competition again this year, with our multi camera options and will post details about this event on this blog prior to it happening.

Step Master: The Making Of Video

Later this term we are having our school Step Master Competition.  This video was created by Jason Bloor, from Sonic Vision Studios.  It includes a detailed explanation of the building process and information that our students and staff went through to complete the build.
